It's great to live in a country where even though partisan sparring and jousting can be fierce and occasionally draw blood, both parties can unite ranks when a moronic thug like Hugo Chavez makes a fool of himself and his countrymen at the United Nations.
Charlie Rangel is a fierce Democrat, but a standup guy [whose legal advisor is a close personal friend] who fought in Korea and is passionate about reinstating the draft so that ALL Americans can do service to their country. Nancy Pelosi occasionally drifts into lotus-eating mode, but her staunch defense of GWB makes me look at her in a different manner, a positive one, for the first time in quite a while.
And some leftists have had what might be called an epiphany over their cohort-companions' looniness.
Only the more-than-mildly-retarded Iowa Sen. Harkin who resembles major comsymp Henry Wallace, FDR's VP from the same state and a dupe and fellow-traveller of Stalin's moles in State, Treasury, and the WH staff under FDR, cuts the tubby cacique from Venezuela some slack. Harkin's brain appears affected by some sort of mental e. coli.
I hope that one aftereffect of this moment of bipartisanship might be the appointment of John Bolton to a full term as Ambassador to the Cave of Fools, the Zoo whose bestiary participants are named "delegates," on Turtle Bay.
Just to make the brain-impaired Third Worlders who applauded the caudillo gnash their teeth in remorse and emotional agony.
"Much have I seen and known; cities of men And manners, climates, councils, governments, ...the fortune of us that are the moon's men doth ebb and flow like the sea, being govern'd, as the sea is, by the moon" [Henry IV, I.ii.31-33] HISTORY NEVER REPEATS ITSELF, BUT IT OFTEN RHYMES "There is a Providence that protects idiots, drunkards, children and the United States of America." Otto von Bismarck
