Romney Correct to Condemn Obama's Foreign Policy

"Stevens was the first Ambassador killed overseas since 1979." I am surely the only person on this thread to have known Spike Dubs, the US Ambassador to Afghanistan killed in Kabul----Spike & I were close during my FSO days and he would grill me about my own experiences as an Arabist----he spoke it like a Lebanese, which was comprehensible all over the Arab world because of the popularity of Lebanese films. Chris Stevens was evidently an Arabist and Francophone like myself and it is beyond sad that such a fine senior officer was murdered unprotected in Benghazi.

Anyone blaming Romney for his statements should judge the context----Obama has been far too deferential to terrorist regimes like Iran and Syria----and far too harsh on our friend and traditional ally like Israel. And Amb. Ann Patterson's statement as a mob was forming outside the Embassy was almost absurdly weak. Instead of defending America's freedom of speech while condemning the silly YouTube [which had been up online for two months!], the statement was inconsequential in light of the violent mob's threats and eventual invasion of the US Territory of the Embassy.

In the light of this oversight, Romney was correct in condemning the Embassy declaration which emanated from the Administration's weak and deferential posture in proclaiming American interests in the face of our opponents. And no condemnation of the Cairo Embassy violation has come from Egyptian President Morsi. So much for the virtues of speaking softly and carrying a toothpick!

It's evident that these recent attacks appear to be pre-planned and coordinated, much like the Danish cartoons a decade back were [they had been in newspapers six months before some 'imam' spotted them.] Al Qaeda or one of its close franchise relatives were planning the Cairo and Libya attacks, especially the Libyan with the rpg's and heavy machine guns, for a while and were awaiting another 'discovery' of the YouTube desecration much as the cartoons were trotted out years ago to justify violence.

Only this time the attacks were on September 11th, a day that will live in infamy.
