The Economist has an interesting article that the legendary "Shrum Effect" might be in the process of being exported to the UK, namely by the PM-in-waiting Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer and impatient successor-in-waiting to Tony Blair.
It appears that Brown has adopted Al Gore's notoriously unsuccessful tack of distancing himself from Bill Clinton, by ignoring Tony Blair's centrist New Labour policies and pining for "the past," which means Labour's inglorious record of minority party until Blair led it to moderation and 10 Downing Street.
Shrum's habit of heaving to port every chance he gets will predictably get David Cameron the PM portfolio for the Conservatives, unless Brown wises up soon.
Link to the Economist article for lotsa laffs at Gore and Shrum's expense.
"Much have I seen and known; cities of men And manners, climates, councils, governments, ...the fortune of us that are the moon's men doth ebb and flow like the sea, being govern'd, as the sea is, by the moon" [Henry IV, I.ii.31-33] HISTORY NEVER REPEATS ITSELF, BUT IT OFTEN RHYMES "There is a Providence that protects idiots, drunkards, children and the United States of America."
