Barnes Overhaul: Better Late than Never.

Fred Barnes has a piece in the Wall Street Journal which suggests just how GWB can overhaul an administration that appears to be in the throes of advanced exhaustion.

Condi for VEEP, Cheney for SecDef, Lieberman for SecState, Rove for RNC Chair, Mehlman for Commo Chief in WH, Glenn Hubbard for SecTreas, Al Hubbard for WH Chief of Staff, Dan Senor for WH Press Briefing Chief.

Whew! Like most armchair philosopher/pols, Barnes has the big picture correct, and he is very aware that GWB like his Dad is a stay-at-home cautious person who prizes loyalty over creativity. So Barnes thinks GWB would be afraid, remembering one of the many Carter disasters when that hapless Prez reorganized [then Vance quit as SecState over Jimmy's incompetence].

Like his Poppy, GWB lacks the "vision thing," and hyperventilates on his mission statement, unaware that things change faster than his mission is accommodating change. Again like his Poppy, GWB is a resume prez, who views hierarchy as next to loyalty in importance. He is NOT a CEO, and acts much more like the Chairman of the Board.

So unless I'm wrong, GWB will "limp in" to 2008 without a major legacy except a few trillion dollars more in national debt and a Republican Party shorn of ideals and a viable candidate [unless they get smart and nominate McCain, but smart isn't their strong suit].
