Gay Saudi Diplomat Asks for Political Asylum

An LA Saudi Consulate Official is asking for asylum. He is not only gay, but has a Jewish woman as a friend. If he is recalled, he says he might be subjected to a public execution.

Having served in Saudi Arabia at the American Embassy for five years and known the current Ambassador, H.E. Adel Al-Jubair, for decades, I know that the Saudi in LA is exaggerating, but that he would lose his job in the Foreign Service of the Kingdom, and likely be kept from any future gainful employment inside the Kingdom. He certainly wouldn't be publicly executed, or punished, as the preferred way for the Saudis is to put the dirt under the rug, so to speak.

My guess is that he is wanting to go out with a splurge of publicity, with the maximum amount of high profile attention so that in the off chance that the Saudis want to persecute/prosecute, he would have the attention of the world to shield him from the worst.

Unlike the perverts who run Iran, the Saudis do have some respect for the decent opinion of mankind. They may not condone homosexuality, but like Victorian England, it is practiced by much of the ruling class in an under-the-radar fashion, and unless this fellow does an Oscar Wilde and sues, they may just let him off with a slap on the wrist.
